Varier Gives Good Seat

A comfy seat that's good for your spine.
My fabulous sponsor, Varier, recently gave me two of their chairs to road test. I promised an unbiased opinion, but I’m afraid it’s going to look like they paid me really well, because I pretty much love ‘em.
My studio road tested the Move ™ and the Variabl balans ™
The Move is a stool with a rounded bottom that tips as you move around. From a Pilates point of view, this is great because you’re not over reaching. My instructors and I were dragging it around and using it as we worked with clients. By leaning forward on the stool, you spine stays “in neutral” a more natural place for the spine to be. The open leg position keeps the pelvis comfy. And of course constantly adjusting on a moving base keeps your “core muscles” engaged so you’re always slightly constracted in the spine and abs.
The Balans is a variation of that old school spine chair from the 70s and it’s got a few nifty updates. The knee pads are separate which allows you to have one leg off to the side if that’s more comfortable for you. It also has a rocking bottom so you can lean forward and back a bit. I fatigue in a regular chair after a couple of hours of paperwork but I was working on a big project for 4 hours in the Balans before my back needed a break.
The only drawback is the price, the Move stool is $475 on Amazon.com and the Balans is $395. They are well constructed and will last for years though …

Admittedly I have a vested interest in this product as we carry at our store BUT having said that, we carry it because it is simply remarkable seating. Every Varier product, from the Move stool to the Peel recliner to the iconic Variable balans kneeling chair is an extraordinary blend of great comfort, high style and superb quality combined with extreme functionality and the ability to promote good posture…what could be be bad?! Seriously folks, there are few products on the market today that warrant those kinds of superlatives and this is one of them. All that and they’re good for you too. They promote good posture, increased circulation and improved concentration… what more could you ask for?! Your Mother would be so proud…check them out for yourself, http://www.backcarebasics.com
Great Post! I might just like to point out that at the MRP price of $395.00 the Variable works out to about 5 cents a day. This is based on an average life of 15 years. So while it may be more expensive than other kneeling chairs, it is actually an extremely good value….not to mention eco-friendly. Building a chair that lasts so long means you dont need to buy another for years, and that is the most difficult environmental commitment an industrial manufacturer can make. Built from sustainable beech, wool based fabrics and flat packed…it is good for you and good for the environment.
