The Fittest Cities in America
I love this report. It comes out annually and my hometown of Boston always ranks well. The American College of Sports Medicine ranks city on a scale of 1 to 100 for levels of health. They look at chronic disease, diet, smoking, etc. Where does your city rank?
- Washington, DC
- Boston
- Minneapolis-St. Paul
- Seattle
- Portland, OR
- Denver
- Sacramento
- San Francisco
- Hartford, CT
- Austin, TX
The 10 Lowest Scoring Cities were …
- New Orleans
- Houston
- San Antonio
- Indianapolis
- Las Vegas
- Louisville
- Detroit
- Memphis
- Birmingham, AL
- Oklahoma City, OK (the absolutely worst …)
They ranked 50 cities overall, to see where yours ranks go here. I am happy to report that Boston went from #4 to #2. Yay! I’d love to see a community respond to their low numbers by stepping it up a bit and the high ranking areas reach out to even more people to get them on the bandwagon.
Let me know how your town does and what you think of rankings like this.
Thanks,
Lisa

Actually, Oklahoma City HAS been trying to do something about it. Three years ago this campaign was started because of this exact list.

We’ve lost 552,051 lbs in the last 3 years. I’d say that’s stepping it up a bit. ;)
Angela that is awesome to hear! Thanks so much for sharing that. :-) I hope they rise to the top soon.

Thanks Lisa. To be honest, I was pretty surprised we’re still the absolute worst after how hard they’ve been campaigning to get everyone healthy here. I guess change this big takes a long time. I know it has for me, I’m still trying to stick to the same lifestyle changes after a couple of years. Need to find my willpower again and get some things accomplished this summer. ;)
wow Miami was #39
and Ft Lauderdale didnt even make it
you’d think we’d be fitter in FL with our weather, available options.
There are some other weird combos too. Austin, TX (keep Austin weird!) is in the top 10 and 2 other TX cities are in the bottom 10. Does that mean we can conclude that liberals are skinnier? ;-)
