The Emmy Body: Stars Show New Lines for Fall
The Hollywood woman is always svelte but trends in body lines change almost as much as the dresses. Several women, such as Eva Longoria Parker, Claire Danes, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Tina Fey were sporting column dresses. What does this mean for you at the gym?
Decolletage
Decolletage is still important; sleeveless gowns that hug the curves means we need to work our chest to keep the girls as perky as possible. Think pushups, chest flys, kettle bells, and medicine ball work.
Sculpted Arms
Sculpted arms have been in for a while now, probably because they are so hard to achieve. Having great arms really shows that you put in the time at the gym or with the trainer in Hollywood. Think light weights and high reps here. I have a 2 1/2 minute video that works wonders with lots of work to the shoulders (deltoids), triceps, and biceps to get your arms looking their sleekest.
Ironing Board Abs
There weren’t a lot of A-line skirts on gowns this year, which means a little pooch will get amplified with hip-hugging curves. This means crunches and the usual ab work, but you should seriously consider adding Pilates. Yes, I’m an instructor, but every exercise we teach includes sucking in your abs. I have a saying in my studio: “Train with a poof, get a poof. Train with a scoop, get a scoop.” By pulling your abs in (away from your belt buckle and towards your spine), you’re training them to be flat and strong. No poofs in my studio!
Derriere
There is a little less emphasis on the backside than there was last awards season but you still can’t ignore it. Keep your butt trim with lots of cardio, lunges, squats, and one of my favorite choices, band work. Thick therabands wrapped around thighs and ankles can really trim your hips in no time.
So if you want to look like a Hollywood glamour girl you’ve got your work cut out for you. Veggies are your new best friend and start looking for that tough army bootcamp trainer now. You’re gonna need it! Remember the Hollywood beauties work out up to two hours per day and have personal trainers, private chefs, and lots and lots of help. It’s not that easy to look that good.
What do you think? Would you want to look like a movie star for a day? Would you be willing to work that hard to get that look? Is it worth what you’ll have to sacrifice? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. I know it can be a hot button topic.
Thanks,
Lisa
