This video was brought to my attention and even for me it was an eye opener. I know that fitness stars frequently diet down for their DVDs and other fitness shoots. I know that photoshop can do wonders. But I didn’t know just how far it could go…until now.
This is a video of photographers involved in the diet industry who talk about taking the before and after shots the same day. It shows the tricks of the trade, both on the “model,” and on the computer screen to take someone from flab to fab.
I was appalled. What do you think?
A big shout out to Diet-Blog.com for posting this and to Kathryn for bringing it to my attention on Twitter.

I don’t like deception at all in any form. Bad words almost came out of my mouth watching this. I guess that is why the fitness DVD’s, diet/weight loss programs and infomercials say “Results not typical”. SHAME
Thanks for the comment Tracey and I agree. Shame on them … L–
This is just awful. I must say, I am not that surprised to hear this but to actual see it in action takes it to a whole other level. Would you mind if I linked to this article in my next blog post?
I’ve done photo editing like this before. Not to that extent but retouching model photos where there is always a request for thinner thighs and waste and more defined abs. It’s amusing that our perception of “healthy” and “fit” isn’t even based in reality.
Not surprising, but disgusting. The part that gripes me is the corporate dishonesty for money. And, it isn’t just in fitness areas, it is also in pharmaceuticals, food, …
When someone is found to have integrity anymore, that is the surprise.
Sure Jennifer, go right ahead :-) L–
I’ve been telling people for years Conrad, that the fitness industry is mostly slimy with a minority of people who truly care about the clients they work with. This video couldn’t be a better example.
That’s flat out lying. Period.
Yup, something the FDA should be looking into don’t you think …
Lisa
Just wrong, on so many levels!
Thanks Gwen, it definitely is! Thanks for stopping by. :-) L–
Wow. That really sums it up nicely doesn’t it!
A shame that this is what companies will do to sell their products. Wrong on all levels.
Thanks for the comments Tony & Rita. Probably this is illegal but you have to get caught first …
So I don’t have to work out, I just have to have my girlfriend Photoshop me! Awe yeah, here we come six-pack!
LOL, yup, more important to know a good photo manipulator than to own some free weights
