4th of July Don’ts!

Submitted by Lisa Johnson on July 2, 2010 – 10:10 am4 Comments

Our country is awesome.  We are an independent tribe and love to revel in our history of forward thinkers and “get it done” attitude.   This has somehow devolved into celebrating our country’s rich history with lots of beer, greasy foods, and scorching sunburns.  So here’s some tongue in cheek don’ts for your holiday this weekend.

Don’t engorge on BBQ extravaganzas. Fill up your plate.  Once.  Sample a bit of this and a bit of that.  Enjoy a nice dessert.  But don’t mound up a pile of food so high it takes two hands to carry it to the picnic table.  You’ll only wind up belly up, like a beached whale on a blanket later with some snarky cousin taking a picture and posting it to Facebook for all to see!

Remember that you are NOT an Olympic athlete. A vigorous game of volleyball is great, but remember your fitness levels.  If you’re playing with the 20 year olds and that decade was a while back for you, remember there’s a point where you body will take you out of the game!  Hobbling around on a sprained ankle for a couple of weeks will not make for fond holiday memories.

Reapply sunscreen. Sunscreen wears off after a couple of hours and no sunscreen is truly waterproof.  Remember to reapply 30 minutes before you go out and every 90 to 120 minutes after that.  Eating a lobster is cool.  Looking like a lobster is not.

Got any other don’t to share?  Go for it!
